Antonio Soler (1729–1783)

The Emperor's Fanfare Back

Antonio Soler was a Spanish composer who studied with the Domenico Scarlatti. Soler served most of his life in monasteries, and at El Escorial — with its several organs — he composed his six concertos for two organs. E Power Biggs recorded these works in the 1960s and arranged “The Emperor’s Fanfare” from the Sixth Concerto for his recording made at Toledo Cathedral, Historic Organs of Spain. The piece contrasts the Great division trumpet against the other organ divisions.
