Alexander Schreiner (1901-1987)
was associated with the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon)
for all of his life. Beginning in 1924, he served as organist at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah, for 53 years.
“Lyric Interlude” was originally a three minute improvisation during a Tabernacle Choir broadcast. After Schreiner
submitted a manuscript of the improvisation that he had written down from a recording of the broadcast, Fischer’s editor
suggested adding a short middle section. This expanded version is the published version. It’s easily Schreiner’s most famous piece. Moderate.
