William Edwin Ashmall (1859-1927) was
born in Warwickshire, England, lived most of his life in the United States, and died in Kearny, New Jersey.
The publisher of Wm E Ashmall & Co of Arlington, New Jersey, is famous now for turning down in 1894 what would have been the
first publication of “Variations on America” by Charles E Ives. Ashmall began publishing this journal in 1889.
